Warm syrup cascades from its glass container and blankets the waffles, filling every crevice with a stream of golden sugar. It is accompanied by crispy chicken, which creates an audible crunch as you chomp into its fried shell.

Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles is a national franchise with locations in Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada and Texas. The horrendous choice of logo fonts can be overlooked when the aroma of the waffles fill your nostrils. Obviously stated in the title, Lolo’s serves chicken and waffles.
Chicken and waffles may sound like an odd pair to an inexperienced foodie but it is the perfect contrast of sweet and savory and is quite common in the South. The chicken compliments the waffles and vice versa. The hint of cinnamon in these particular glorious waffles works perfectly to enhance the flavors of both seemingly opposite dishes.

If you’re not a fan of chicken and waffles, there are many more menu items to accommodate you. It’s not expected that a chicken and waffles restaurant also serves catfish and shrimp, but they do. Lolo’s famous Kool-Aid washes down whatever you order with the perfect amount of sugar.

Upon entering, it’s not apparent the restaurant is a chain. The vibrant chicken decor keeps your craving alive until you get your food, brought by the extremely friendly staff. The stylish R&B jams add to the ambiance.

Their prices were reasonable, but no Skutt Catholic student will be popping over there for a Monday B lunch period. The only Nebraska location is located on Ames Street, near 72nd and Military. It’s a tad far, but worth the drive if you have the time.
This was my second time eating at this restaurant, and I was disappointed this time with how my meal turned out. The first time, my chicken was fried perfectly, but this time around, it was a little well done, to say the least. The overcooked chicken didn’t stop me from cleaning my plate, though.
Overall, Lolo’s was a very positive experience. Great service, great food, great atmosphere, it’s the total package.
