How Fantasy Basketball Has Taken Over My Life

My experience of joining a fantasy basketball league for the first time

Anthony Davis is the player you must have in fantasy basketball

About a week before the NBA season started, I was approached by a friend to join his fantasy league. I haven’t joined any fantasy league before, so I wanted to try it and see if I would like it. My friend sent me the link and I was ready for draft night. However, I had no idea what was in store for me for the upcoming weeks of the season.

My obsession started with the first game of the season, facing one of my friends who knew nothing about basketball. He put up monster numbers with players that I never heard of, which were Myles Turner and Elfrid Payton. He ended up beating me that week and it annoyed me on several levels. First, I knew a lot more about basketball then he does. Secondly, it was the first matchup of the season and I didn’t want to start off the season 0-1. The defeat was one of the main things I remembered that week and I was angry the entire week because of my new obsession of fantasy basketball.

I now have this compulsive need to look at many things in the NBA regular season that I didn’t before. I used to barely pay attention to the NBA regular season, but that has changed with fantasy basketball. Now when, I wake up in the morning, I check what games will be played on the national stage, like ESPN or TNT. If any of my players are in that game, I have to watch it just to see how well my players are doing. Most of the time I don’t even care about who wins the game, all that matters is how many fantasy points my players puts up. An example of this would be the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings matchup last Monday. I watched the game because two players started that were on my team, not because I care about the teams.

Once the games actually start, I can’t really focus on anything else. I look at how many points my team and a player has countless number of times during game-time. I get distracted from whatever thing I’m doing and I get caught up looking at the stats. Some other things that I get distracted by is what players are on the floor and how well my opponents players are playing. I can’t help myself and fantasy basketball takes over life before I’m productive.

Fantasy basketball is awesome and I’m glad I decided to join a league. I enjoyed it up to this point and I would recommend anyone that likes sports to play this. Just don’t get too obsessed, like I have become.
