Wide-eyed and belly-filled, you stare blankly at your computer screen, your gateway into hours of splendid leisure, and it stares back at you, anticipating your next move. “Do I play another minute of Call of Duty,” you may ask, “Or Minecraft?” You shudder at the title alone. Summer was spent wasting time on over-rated games, and Thanksgiving break is your first chance to maneuver your way into spending some long-awaited hours with your left fingers prodding the w, a, s, d, and space keys. It was now or never.

You open the store.

The Curious Expedition

The Curious Expedition, an RPG (role-playing game) adventure found on Steam, follows you, the adventurer, throughout your journey through far-away lands, set up in a “Settlers of Catan”-like map. Your goals are to find the lost shrine, spoil its riches, and return home to be honored by all. If that doesn’t sound difficult enough, the game introduces dark twists, such as team members turning cannibalistic, dehydration, and life-threatening anxiety levels. It is not nearly your average treasure hunt.

To The Moon

With a storyline and soundtrack to strum away at your heartstrings, the world-renowned To The Moon takes Indie RPG to an entirely new level. Also on Steam, you follow two doctors in their attempt to artificially fulfill the dying wish of an elderly man, which is to go to the moon. This must be accomplished by traversing through time, and changing the path of his past life. But with such character and relatability added into the patient, you can’t help but fall in love with the little pixelated figure by the end of the story, as the heart monitor slowly diminuendos.

Stonehearth

In this indie game, sold on Steam, Stonehearth puts you in charge of helping a small group of settlers survive, grow, and prosper in a hostile land. This game adds in crafting functions and mobs to contradict from your average city-builder, and with creators that are extremely involved with their fan-base, there are unique functions being added to the experience constantly. With admirable graphics and a catchy soundtrack, this game is sure to have you spend hours creating your own town.

The Silent Age

Silent Age, the spooky point-and-click RPG that was first found on IOS but reimagined for PC on Steam, follows a seemingly-average janitor in his attempt to save the world from an unknown disaster using one tool: a time-controller. The story takes place in both the 70’s and the apocalyptic 2012. It is your job to uncover the truth behind human extinction, and fulfill the promise you made to a dying man from the future. With puzzles to make you question your intelligence, this game pleads for hours of your unaverted attention.

Deep Sleep

Found on amorgames.com, Deep Sleep is another point-and-click adventure, with the added flavor of horror. The award winning series, including Deep Sleep, Deeper Sleep, and, you guessed it, Deepest Sleep, follows the protagonist in his endeavor to wake up from his never-ending nightmare. “Something lurks in the darkness… Something in the depths of your own mind wants to pull you even deeper. Someone will escape this dream for sure. The question is – who is that going to be?”
