One of the oldest traditions at Skutt Catholic is the first Wednesday of October where the entire school sets out into Omaha to give back to the community. This year, 53 different locations across the area.

Homeless shelters, food banks, retirement homes, and elementary schools were all popular spots for students Wednesday as the people they were serving were more than happy to be accompanied by SkyHawks. “I went to Nelson Mandela Elementary School, and had a great time working with the kids amd seeing the smiles on their faces.” Senior Grant Bertucci said.

Before and after the service students gathered in the gym for a time of preparation and reflection on the work they’ve done. Many students are encouraged to take something away from the time they’ve spent with the ones they’re helping. Various speakers talked about the day and set goals for students to reach.

Community Involvement Day is a long lasting tradition at Skutt Catholic that inspires its student body to help others in need in the community, as well as be thankful for the gifts they’ve received.

This is just one of the many activities students participate in during the month of “Hawktober.”
