Aug. 22, 2018 — Yesterday afternoon news broke that Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort received convictions of felony fraud. Trump’s former attorney and campaign chairman, respectively, were found guilty of crimes ranging from tax evasion to campaign finance violations.

Manafort’s charges consisted of five tax fraud charges, one charge of hiding foreign bank accounts and two counts of bank fraud.

Cohen’s charges are based on using campaign funds to pay off Trump’s alleged former mistress, Stormy Daniels. He was also convicted of evidence tampering after using transactions with Essential Consultants LLC in order to cover up the pay-off.

“These trials are the first to come out of this whole investigation, so we’re going to have to keep our eyes open for anyone else getting charged,” said Government and Politics teacher Mrs. Meyer.

Because of their close relations with Trump during his campaign, both of these convictions have opened doors for further investigation into the president himself.  Michael Caputo, one of Trump’s former campaign advisors, recently made the statement that “this is all they [Democrats] need for impeachment,” according to CNN.
