April 25, 2018 was a suspenseful day for many students at Skutt Catholic, especially senior Hope Stratman. She had advanced to the final round of the national Poetry Out Loud competition and was scheduled to give her final performance at 6 p.m.

Skutt Catholic students had their eyes glued to computer and iPhone screens on the edge of their seats, waiting impatiently for the results to be announced. Finally, the announcer released the big news: Hope Stratman from Nebraska had placed third in the nation.

“I didn’t expect it at all, I didn’t even expect to get into the top 24,” said Stratman. “I’m excited not only for myself, but to represent Nebraska and my school. I’m very fortunate to have had this experience during high school, and to have had Mrs. Hoye as such a talented coach,” Stratman continued. Congratulations to Hope Stratman on such an incredible feat.
