When my mom first asked me to see this movie, I was a bit hesitant. I thought it would be some cheesy religious movie, but I was definitely wrong.

The movie is about how the song, “I Can Only Imagine,” by MercyMe is created and how the artist, Bart Millard, found the inspiration to write the hit song. The story begins with the main character in an interview with the interviewer telling Bart that the beloved song he wrote took him a lifetime to create. This was a dramatic beginning that left you wanting to know more about the artist that wrote this famed Christian song.

The movie then flashes back to Bart as a child. The audience sees the physical abuse Bart’s father inflicted on him during his childhood. This abuse becomes a major part of the reason Bart writes “I Can Only Imagine.” The movie can easily make you emotional and I was fully consumed in the story of Bart and his father. The fact that this movie is based on a true story makes the overall message of change even more prominent.

“I Can Only Imagine” continues with Bart in high school and him participating in choir due to his football injury. The choir instills a love of singing in Bart and he decides to pursue his singing dreams.

The movie depicts the transformation of Bart’s father and how Bart finds the inspiration for his chart-topping song. I greatly enjoyed the way the movie illustrated Bart’s life and I felt like I was living in his story. I became completely engrossed in the movie.

The film ends with Bart singing the song ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ and this was the first time I had ever heard it. It was definitely different than I expected it to be, however, I enjoyed it. The movie captivates your interest and leaves you wondering about God and the aspect of Heaven.

I highly recommend seeing this film, even if you have doubts. I was greatly entertained by this movie and it was interesting to see a true story involving religion in the movie theater.

“I Can Only Imagine,” illustrates keeping faith even when there seems to be no hope. The movie has a powerful message that people in one’s life can indeed change.

Very awesome article. I am a HUGE fan of this song and the band behind the song, so I loved every single second of it. Definitely the best Christian film I’ve seen. I agree that everyone should see this for its inspiring messag3 about hope in the darkest times of our lives.
