March 8, 2018 — In light of the recent events in Parkland, Florida, Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack has announced the company’s decision to stop selling assault rifle type weapons and to implement stricter rules on gun sales.

The 19 year old gunman at the Parkland shooting bought a shotgun from Dick’s Sporting Goods last November, though the weapon was not used in last month’s attacks.

One new rule stipulates that customers must be 21 or older to even be considered to purchase a gun. In addition, the company is implementing much more thorough background checks and mental health exams.

The company is also supporting a “common sense gun reform.” It encourages officials to make the same changes in the law as they have in their company, to eliminate loopholes in gun sale and purchase, and to have a readily accessible database of people who are not allowed to buy guns.

All of these actions are being put into place solely to protect the American people, as gun violence has become an extremely fatal problem in the nation.
