Senior Ben Altman is known for his success in football and wrestling; this year he holds winning for the first time. However, Altman’s success reaches far beyond the field into the classroom the halls of Skutt Catholic. He peers know him as a loyal friend and his teachers as a lively student.

How did you get involved in wrestling?
I played football since I was in the third grade and I started wrestling my sophomore year trying to improve in football.

Who inspired you to take part in wrestling and football?
My father was big on football and pushed me to it, which is why I started so young. Wrestling was my own decision because I wanted to improve and I wanted to get in shape.

What are your favorite memories of Skutt wrestling and football?
For football, playing the state championship games at Memorial Stadium and beating Gretna this year to make it to the state finals. For wrestling, I would say hanging out with my teammates.

What do you think are your greatest accomplishments?
I don’t really have anything for wrestling, but for football making it to the state playoffs twice and being a captain of the football and wrestling team. Not really any tangible ones, but being a captain as in my teammates think highly of me that’s an accomplishment in my eyes.

How is the wrestling season going so far and how do you think the team will finish?
It’s going well personally, I’m above 500 this season, which I have never done before. I’m 13-11 and I think the team is about ready to hit stride as we go into the Jessie Grimes tournament. We are getting guys who were hurt and sick back, so we’re finally getting healthy. I think we are ready to hit stride.

Have you enjoyed your time on the wrestling and football team?
Yeah, it’s been a good experience and I made a lot of friends doing it.

What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting, with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Robin Williams.

What is one of your favorite quotes
“Facts don’t care about your feelings”- Ben Sharipo.

What is your motto you live by?
Don’t be afraid to do things that are out of your comfort zone, especially when you are around strangers, because most likely those people will never see you again so it doesn’t really matter.

What is a normal day in the life of Ben Altman?
Come to school early, get my homework done, go to my classes and try to stay awake for most of them, go to practice, go home, drink a bunch of water, usually eat an Italian sausage, do some homework and go to bed.

Do you have any pets, like a dog or a cat?
I have a dog named JoJo, who is a Shih Poo poodle.

What is your favorite meal to start the day?
I usually eat an orange.

What was your favorite spot to go on vacation?
Every year, my family vacations in Minnesota, in a small town east of Fargo called Ottertale. That’s definitely my favorite sport and we go fishing, ride horses, and stuff like that

What lessons did you learn at Skutt and want things will you take with you after your senior year?
I learned to take some chances. An example is I never wrestled before and I did it and I went out for it three years. I enjoyed my experience doing that so I decided to go out of my comfort zone a few times to try something that I thought was interesting even though it wasn’t completely comfortable and I enjoyed doing those things.
