Skutt Catholic’s commons was packed full of members of the National Honor Society, including 84 new members and their parents Tuesday night.

The event began with Caleb Sudbeck, president of Skutt Catholic’s Soaring SkyHawk Chapter, addressing and welcoming family and friends. “I’m very proud of all of our newly inducted members, it really is such an honor,” Sudbeck said. “And without the help of our already inducted senior, this event wouldn’t have run as smooth.”

The evening continued with a presentation from Skutt Catholic Alumnus and small business owner, Mrs. Beth Raper. Raper, who graduated from Skutt Catholic in 2002, discussed the benefits of a Catholic education as well as the long term effects of being a member of NHS has had on her professional career. Raper encouraged students to use their leadership skills and academic excellence to achieve even their most lofty goals.

Chapter leaders called each new member’s name as they signed the chapter’s official membership book and received a certificate from members of Skutt Catholic’s administration. Finally, students were handed a candle as a symbol of the flame ignited by their new membership into the society.

The Soaring SkyHawk Chapter’s new members will soon partake in NHS events like supporting adopt-a-family programs for the Christmas season and organizing the annual blood drive later this winter.
