Sept. 14, 2017 — The Cleveland Indians are on a win-streak for the ages. Many teams in recent history have strung together multiple victories to approach records, but they fall short of that achievement. The Indians just surpassed the 2002 Athletics feat of 20 wins yesterday with a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Indians’ excellence on the diamond starts with their pitching staff. Lead by Corey Kluber and Andrew Miller, the Indians have thrown seven shutouts throughout their win streak. Along with the painting of the corners, the Indians’ bats have woken up. Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez have made a major impact in the run production for the team, who have outscored their opponents by a run differential of 104.

“I hope they’re not too hot, so that they can make a run for the playoffs. They are going for history now, so you just hope the club can stay healthy. They won 14 in a row in the playoffs last year, and everyone knows what happened last year,” junior Jack McGonigal said.

The Cleveland Indians are hoping to keep this winning trend into October and ultimately win their first MLB championship since 1948, after falling short to the Cubs last year. Even with the tremendous feat, the Indians do not have the all time winning streak which is held by the 1916 Giants with 26 games. The surpassed Athletics earned a movie for their triumphs, so if the Indians keep it up, maybe they can be seen on the big screen in the pending future.
