Aug. 8, 2017 –Over 100 long-standing members of the Skutt Catholic community sat together in the commons and celebrated the launch of the school’s 25th Anniversary year: eating pizza made by 1997 graduate Nick Strawhecker, owner of Dante Ristorante Pizzeria. As they ate, they discussed how far Skutt Catholic has come over the past 25 years but, more importantly, discussed where we are going.

“The Archbishop asked ‘what would you do?’ And he turned to me,” Mr. Bruce Haney said, “I asked, ‘You mean if I were the Archbishop of Omaha?’ He nodded at me. ‘Well,’ I said, ‘I would go out west and build a new school.’”

While Skutt Catholic President Mr. Jeremy Moore revealed the new SkyHawk Student Center to the guests and faculty, they discussed the library that it used to be; when the carpet was new (but not as nice as it is now), or when the walls were painted that ‘gaudy’ shade, but how back then it had seemed perfect; how their children wrote essays on now stone-aged, but at the time,  high tech computers and referenced actual paper books in their bibliographies.

“That was the seed of Skutt Catholic, from that meeting, that idea, turned into this blue-ribbon institution.”

Monsignor James Gilg, the first president of Skutt Catholic, blessed the Student Center and the reconciliation room that the school’s very own CAD students designed for the chapel. Afterwards, many people remarked on also having been present when they blessed the wrestling room way back in 1998.

“It is just wonderful how the Skutt Catholic community works together. We have kept up with the times, with the library turning into this Student Center, and you have to. But we have kept that. It’s amazing to see these children come in here and develop with the school the way it has… it’s these trees then returning to a forest.” Haney said.
