My freshman year, I had decided that I wanted to just get through my first year of high school and maybe do a few sports. I had always thought about trying out a choir, but I didn’t decide until the end of freshman year when I tried out for show choir. This decision has changed my high school career for the better.

Joining a choir has helped me be a more outgoing person. Now, to most people I may seem quiet and very discreet, but it use to be much worse. I used to have problems just talking with my friends and classmates casually. Joining a choir has been an eye-opener because of how many people are willing to be themselves and express that

through the music they perform. Take show choir for example; each singer is telling a story in their own way through the moves, the facials, and the songs they sing.

I decided to join a choir because I knew I had some friends that were trying out, and since I had a small interest I thought, “Why not?” I signed up for auditions a little under a week before  they were going to happen. Little did I know that I was dedicating a large chunk of my freetime. I made the decision a little hastily, but I have no regrets.

Aside from my time loss, I also gained many friends. I wouldn’t have even met a large portion of these people otherwise. Since show choir is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, I can’t wait to get up, see everyone, and start my day off in a great mood.

I strongly recommend taking choir if you have any interest in it. These long days of show choir may seem daunting, but every second is enjoyable. I would say the same thing for anything you have interest in. You never know what may be good or bad until you try.
