They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can judge it by its words. Whether it be a person, a movie, a favorite novel or a play, the things that we often find to be most interesting are what the people say. About two years ago, I started compiling a list of all of my favorite quotes and it’s become a sort of collection for me. While other people collect seashells or vinyl records, I collect words. It is my firm belief that the words we leave behind are the spurring factors of our legacy. Not only is leaving a legacy important to me, seeking out the legacy in others is a journey beyond comparison. The following are the favorite quotes of our fellow students as well as a few of my top choices.

“Either the wallpaper goes, or I go.”

-Oscar Wilde

“You are enough, you are so enough. It’s unbelievable how enough you are.”

“Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.”

-Arthur Weasley

“Most importantly love like its the only thing you know how. At the end of the day all this means nothing. This page where you’re sitting, your degree, your job, the money- nothing even matters except love and human connection- who you loved and how deeply you loved them, how you touched the people around you and how much you gave them.”

-Rupi Kaur

“Leslie, I tried to make ramen in the coffee pot and I broke everything.”

-Andy Dwyer

“What a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person is more than a person.”

-John Green

“The tiger and the lion may be more powerful, but the wolf does not perform in the circus.”

“I wonder how many people I’ve looked at all my life and never seen.”

-John Steinbeck

“We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that death will tremble to take us.”

-Charles Bukowski

“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”
